|
his richly illuminated manuscript (holding 72 miniatures stylistically associated with the Shirazi school of miniaturists) was acquired by the East India Company orientalist Hamish Forbes Falconer, likely from the library of the Tipu Sultan of Mysore after his defeat in 1799. It was then briefly lost until it was purchased in a bazaar in 1857, and waantransferred to the British library when the latter took over the papers of the East India Company. Next to the many of the miniatures are short descriptive commentaries in Kannada (previously misidentified as Telugu), potentially suggesting that the manuscript was circulating within Hindu circles of the Deccan court. |
