- The full title - took from the ESTC entry (N510528) - does not mention women. Instead, the neutral "counsellors" is used. The potential reader is also teased with "many pretty pictures, lively expressing each history", so the woodcuts serve as further advertisement: Roman stories: or, The history of the seven wise masters of Rome: containing seven days entertainment, in many pleasant and witty tales, or stories. Wherein the treachery of evil counsellors is discovered, innocency cleared, and the wisdom of seven wise philosophers displayed. Newly corrected, and better explain'd, and enlarg'd. Adorned with many pretty pictures, lively expressing each history. For this, also see Roman Stories: or, The history of the seven wise masters of Rome . London: James Hollis, 1785–1792
