Mario Teluccini's verse
Erasto poem, composed in
ottava rima, in nine cantos, was published in 1566 - just decades after the emergence of the first version of the
Erasto narrative in 1542. Wikeley observes that in addition to attempting to build on the
Erasto's popularity, Teluccini was also drawing on Ariosto's
Orlando furioso for inspiration (
Wikeley, 1983, p. 11-12). The poem was not immensely successful, however.
