Richler notes, 'According to the numeration of the quires the first four quires (except for the last 3 ff.) are missing' (p. 146).
On story variation, Epstein notes: "A highly interesting variant, hitherto unnoted, occurs in the story Gibbosi on fol. 9r. When the porter carries the smothered hunchbacks to the river to dispose of them, the copyist, suddently inspired, fills the bottom and left margin of the page with nine lines describing the meeting of the stupid porter with a live hunchback at the river's edge. The porter confuses him with the ones he has thrown in and cannot understand why this one is still alive. Unfortunately a 2" by 2" section of this variant reading at the bottom has been obliterated and the lines at the left have faded, making reading by photocopy impossible" (p. 350). 2. Ff. llr-1 8 v : מעשהאלכסנטרוס Gests of Alexander of
Macedon. This composition consists of three
separate Greek stories: a) The Alexander Romance
(Pseudocallisthenes); b) a Greek chronicle on the
history of the world from Alexander to Augustus;
c) the end of Palladius' work on the Brahmans. All
three were probably translated from the Greek. Cf.
D. Flusser, in Tarbiz, xxvi (1957), pp. 164-185. On
the interpolations of texts a and c in some
versions of Josippon, cf. Flusser ,s edition
(Jerusalem 1981), voi. ii, pp. 216-252. Cf. also I.J.
