A note on dating: Gadsden (2021) uses the manuscript context, and the final entry of one the chronicles included in the ''Llyfr Coch Hergest'' (The Red Book of Hergest), as the manuscript is known, to date the text. The final chronicle entry is 1382; additionally, the scribe's patron, Hopcyn ap Tomas of Ynysforgan, for whom the text may have been composed, died in 1405. This places the likely period of composition at 'the turn of the century' (Gadsden p. 36). | |||
