Of the three surviving Old Swedish manuscripts of the Seven Sages narrative, usually titled Sju vise mästare (The Seven Wise Masters, first edited by G. E. Klemming, 1887-1889), two are part of the larger Version A tradition. (The third Old Swedish manuscript, Redaction C, is part of Version H.)
The two manuscripts - usually referred to in scholarship as Redaction A and Redaction B - both date to the first half of the 15th century. According to Massimiliano Bampi (2007 and 2014), both have as their source texts Latin Version A translations of the French Version A narrative, though Bampi suggests they derive from two distinct Latin manuscripts. The complete text is only extant in Redaction B; Redaction A is missing the beginning of the frame story.
