Since the publication of an edition of the
Sju vise mästare by
G. E. Klemming, 1887-1889, the three known Old Swedish manuscripts have been classified into three redactions (A, B, and C). The Old Swedish Version A has - so far - only survived in two manuscripts which date back to the first half of the 15th century. They are known as Redaction A and Redaction B. According to Massimiliano Bampi (
2007 and
2014), both have been translated, each from a different Latin translation of the French Version A. The complete text is only extant in Redaction B; Redaction A is missing the beginning of the frame story.
